Heavy Metal Meets Wrestling In Downtown Augusta
April 25, 2007John J. Cannon of Augusta, Georgia's Metro Spirit reports:
Ever wonder what would happen if someone paired the aggressive natures of heavy metal and professional wrestling in a barroom atmosphere?
After Friday, April 27, you'll never have to wonder again. That's when The Mission begins a monthly series called Metal and Wraslin' Mayhem. Downtown Augusta may never be the same.
"It's not going to be rated PG, that's for sure," said Mission Talent Buyer Jason Barron. "There will be cursing. There will be violence. There will be blood. We plan on doing this once a month, culminating with our own Border Bash featuring South Carolina wrestlers versus Georgia wrestlers."
As history shows, this will not be the first time locally that wrestling has been featuring in a nightclub setting. But while now-defunct venues such as Durango's and Miss Kitty's once played host to wrestlers and their rabid fans, no one has dared to attempt the collision that only wrestling and heavy metal together can bring — especially in downtown Augusta. It's an idea that Barron himself wishes he could take credit for.
"Well, actually, it was not my idea completely. Chris Brown from the band ANGER MANAGEMENT came up with the idea and I told him we should do it at The Mission. At first he thought I was crazy. Chris contacted the bands and the wrestlers and I jumped on the promotion and now we have ourselves a show like has never been seen in Augusta."
